Dobby Has No Master, Dobby Is A Free Elf!

You may have noticed that I recently took another break and decided to schedule no posts for the last month.. I’ve missed my little space on the internet so much in that time yet have still been lacking everything it is that I’ve needed to make blogging my happy place once more.. Well, thankfully fellow blogger and awesome person, Britt, has picked the perfect time to give me a much needed kick to the rear and with a little felix felicis and flick of my wand I’m back with what is the most exciting tag I have ever been bestowed!

Gather round Gryffindors, Hufflepuffs, Ravenclaws and Slytherins because today’s post is one you’re not going to want to miss if you’re a true Hogwarts student. Yes, today we have all things magical with the following Harry Potter tag. I can’t even begin to express the utter elation I felt when first finding out that I’d been tagged. The wizarding world is most definitely a huge part of my life and there’s nothing I love more than actually being able to share my love for that world, with everyone back in the muggle populated areas! Thank you, Britt (Alternatively Speaking – go check out her epic blog, you won’t regret it) for giving me back the shine to my snitch and getting me back into the blogging game, the next round of Butterbeers are on me! Now, on with the fun!

1. What house are you in?
I’m an incredibly proud Hufflepuff! Whilst I definitely wear the Gryffindor colours much more, I adore my badger roots and wouldn’t swap my house for even the full contents of each Gringotts vault. We clearly make the best friends possible for a person and any chance to sit in the common room drooling over Cedric is more than welcome for me. Now is not the time to remind me he’s dead okay so don’t!!

2. What is your patronus?
Honestly, I might have known that my patronus would be a breed of dog! Mine is, according to Pottermore, the Irish Wolfhound. Due to there not being any information there on a person’s patronus, I checked out the same ‘patronus analysis’ as Britt, though unfortunately found mine to not be included at all. There were a dog, collie, wolf and German shepherd, yet no poor forgotten Irish Wolfhound. It’s now become my mission to find something out about my patronus elsewhere!

3. What is your wand?
My wand is Alder wood with unicorn hair core, 11 3/4 inch in length and has a slightly springy flexibility. The following notes taken from Pottermore explain aspects of my wand a little more in depth.

“Alder is an unyielding wood, yet I have discovered that its ideal owner is not stubborn or obstinate, but often helpful, considerate and most likeable. Whereas most wand woods seek similarity in the characters of those they will best serve, alder is unusual in that it seems to desire a nature that is, if not precisely opposite to its own, then certainly of a markedly different type. When an alder wand is happily placed, it becomes a magnificent, loyal helpmate. Of all wand types, alder is best suited to non-verbal spell work, whence comes its reputation for being suitable only for the most advanced witches and wizards.”

“Unicorn hair generally produces the most consistent magic, and is least subject to fluctuations and blockages. Wands with unicorn cores are generally the most difficult to turn to the Dark Arts. They are the most faithful of all wands, and usually remain strongly attached to their first owner, irrespective of whether he or she was an accomplished witch or wizard. Minor disadvantages of unicorn hair are that they do not make the most powerful wands (although the wand wood may compensate) and that they are prone to melancholy if seriously mishandled, meaning that the hair may ‘die’ and need replacing.”

“Most wands will be in the range of between nine and fourteen inches. While I have sold extremely short wands (eight inches and under) and very long wands (over fifteen inches), these are exceptionally rare. In the latter case, a physical peculiarity demanded the excessive wand length. However, abnormally short wands usually select those in whose character something is lacking, rather than because they are physically undersized (many small witches and wizards are chosen by longer wands).”

“Wand flexibility or rigidity denotes the degree of adaptability and willingness to change possessed by the wand-and-owner pair – although, again, this factor ought not to be considered separately from the wand wood, core and length, nor of the owner’s life experience and style of magic, all of which will combine to make the wand in question unique.”

4. What would your boggart be?
Like Britt, I’d have to say a dementor, for the ‘real world’ version is my biggest obstacle in life and something of which I’m in a constant battle with.

5. What position would you play in Quidditch?
I’d like to be a seeker, it seems to be the position not only with the most freedom but also allowing for much faster broom speeds, alas, being realistic I’d be hopeless… I’m absolutely useless when it comes to being observant and there’s no chance I’d see that dang snitch flying around. There’d be more chance of me befriending Umbridge – let me tell you now, never in a million years! I’d probably make a kick ass beater though, prepare Madam Pomfrey ‘cause she’s about to be one damn busy lady!

6. Would you be a pure blood, half blood or muggle born?
You’ve probably seen the definitions floating around for longer than the ghost of Nearly Headless Nick, but I’ll pop them in below anyway and will have to say that I’m a pure blood death eater! Oh Voldemort would be so proud! I know, I know, it’s not very Hufflepuff of me, hey we all have our character flaws!

Muggles: People who haven’t seen the movies or read the books
Muggle-borns: People who have only seen the movies
Half-bloods: People who have only read the books
Pure Bloods: People who have read the books and seen the movies
Deatheaters: Pure Bloods that look down on Muggle-borns

7. What job would you want to have after graduating Hogwarts?
I’m a bit of a homing pigeon and definitely feel as though I’d never want to leave Hogwarts… So if Hagrid wants an apprentice Care of Magical Creatures teacher then that would be spot on for me, in my summer break I’ll head on vacation with my pal, Newt Scamander, what more could I wish for?

8. Which of the deathly hallows would you choose?
Easy… As pretty as the wand itself is, the invisibility cloak! All the mischief to be caused with that, hell yeah!

9. Favourite book?
Oh I’m sorry but can you choose a favourite limb or organ? This is torture but…. Argh I don’t know! Maybe the Prizoner of Azkaban. I adore Sirius, it’s where the Marauder’s Map were discovered, when we were first introduced to Hogsmede and so damn much more! Sure, the dementors were a pain…. But Buckbeak! Also it were the year of the best Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher there’s been, yes, obviously Lupin! Yeah, okay, Prizoner of Azkaban it is. I feel there were some added oomph starting to be thrown in at this point also bonus points are given for nobody having been killed off as of yet.

10. Least favourite book?
Despite loving it for being the entrance to this whole epic world, I’m going to have to say The Philosopher’s Stone. It’s got the least action (because huge three headed dogs must be apparently a normal thing to me) and of course had to include much of the basic detail, where Harry is from, who he is and such.. Whilst there’s nothing wrong with that it just means that I feel a little less invested in it, whereas further into the series the characters have then become a part of my life and I’m connected. As the series progresses and deepens I feel the books become less for children and more for everybody, whereas the Philosopher’s Stone feels more like a children’s book and is of course, the smallest. I like big books and I cannot lie… Yeah I did legitimately just sing that to myself out loud.

11. Favourite film?
Dobby has no master, Dobby is a free elf! I have to go with Chamber of Secrets. Nobody I adore dies, there’s a little more action, Dobby is free of the Malfoy’s and I’m sorry but a teen Voldemort isn’t too insulting on the eye… Helloooo Tom Riddle!

12. Least favourite film?
Okay first things first – books over films ALWAYS! Each and every film, whilst I love them too, has let me down. I feel like it would have to either be Philosopher’s, because something seemed ‘off’ and I remember getting really annoyed the last time I watched it due to missed out or unexplained detail… Or, Goblet of Fire. Again it seemed to miss out huge and detrimental plot points. Then again they all do. You really can’t appreciate and understand the world of Harry Potter without reading the books. I feel like the films are probably pretty confusing without doing so.

13. Favourite character?
Okay I have to – Dobby! He’s simply amazing, isn’t he? The loyalty and love he shows from start to finish for Harry is unreal! He’s so damn selfless, always so ready to help in any way that he can. I adore him, actually I adore house elves in general I think, I even developed a large soft spot for Kreacher.

14. Least favourite/most hated character?
Without a shadow of a doubt – Umbridge! I despise her more than Voldemort, I mean, I can actually kinda see where Voldy is coming from due to certain things in his past but Delores Umbridge, what exactly is her point in existing, other than to be a foul troll sucking the happiness out of everyone and everything? She’s worse than a damn dementor for the distribution of desolate feelings. Maybe it’s because we know nothing much about her but I can’t simply get behind someone who’s quite clearly evil and is abusive to children for the fun of it. She’s power hungry, too. Ergh. Get gone you creepy little round troll!

15. Favourite teacher at Hogwarts?
This is an extremely tough one between Hagrid and McGonagall. Whilst Hagrid is a massive softie, animal/creature lover and hilarious, McGonagall is kick ass, clearly loves the students and school fiercely and is basically just a legend entirely. The amount of times she’s shown leniency for the rules when she hasn’t agreed with another professor and the whole way in which she showed distaste for Delores… Her total awesomeness throughout the final battle… Argh, I just love her. She kicks ass and is one witch to stay on the right side of.

16. Least favourite teacher at Hogwarts?
We’ve already established my hate for Umbridge, besides I see her as ministry through and through rather than a professor, the following may not have been around for very long but…. Quirrell. Not just due to the fact he were hiding Voldemort under his turban, he simply grated on my last nerve. How awkward and cringe inducing did he need to be, really? Urgh, just get a backbone you spineless fool! Though I do have to say it’s extremely close between him and Lockhart… Actually, speaking of which.. The more I think about it the more I simply feel sorry for Quirrell and feel I should have maybe gone with Lockhart for this…

17. Do you have any unpopular opinions about the series?
Okay… So I actually don’t mind Voldemort, Molly (as much as I do also love her) drives me up the wall and Harry…. Ergh. I don’t even know where to start on him. I think I’m like.. Supposed to think he’s awesome, right? I mean – he’s Harry Potter! Yet I could just really do without him. I actually like Narcissa Malfoy and Draco is just in need of a decent father figure – this indeed meaning that I aren’t utterly against him either. I definitely think an Acromantula would make a badass pet, sorry to all you arachnophobes out there but Aragog is my home boy!

18. If you could save one character from the final battle who would you save?
Easy one for me… ‘Cause it’s the final battle, right, not the whole thing (that would prove impossible) so… Fred Weasley. As much as I adore Lupin and Tonks, and hate to think of little Teddy as an orphan… I just can’t deal with George’s inability to ever produce his patronus charm since the death of his twin… You simply can’t have one without the other!

So, I shall now leave the list of questions below before I get tagging some lovelies to continue the fun. I do hope that people will share the love and check out these wonderful fellow Potterheads, too. There’s no set number of tags I do believe, therefore just have fun with it everyone!

I hope this tag has been as fun to read as it were to take part in. I’ve literally stayed up to some obscene time in the morning (7AM) plotting my answers whilst my unborn child attempts to repeatedly break my rib cage, purely because I’ve been too excited to take a break and go to bed! Do we agree or disagree on anything? I’d love to get chatty in the comments, don’t worry I won’t drop any unforgivable curses on you if you have a differing opinion to me!

  2. Of course you’d do a tag like this! You’re the biggest HP fan I know hahaha. I love HP but probably not as much as you do LMAO
Also, Alex is always saying that we’re technically slytherin by default because of our last name (salazar) — salazar slytherin LMAO. Can you believe him?! I’d be in Gryffindor of all houses LOL
I would love to look up what my patronus is 🙂

  3. This was fun. I can just see all of your excitement and love for Harry Potter. But as a “muggle born” I’m a bit sad that you’re a death eater. Lol the books came out during the time when I didn’t/wouldn’t read. Lol
I now have some some research to do.

    1. It’s okay I make some exceptions! My Mom’s only seen the films too, I’m just constantly telling her instead how she’ll never fully appreciate the Wizarding World until she reads the books! Honestly it’s a must! 😀 You got mega points for enjoying Fantastic Beasts anyway, so it’s okay. 😉
